Instructor Spotlight - Ella B
Gabriela (Ella) B. has been teaching at Bach to Rock since July. Originally from New Jersey, her passion for music began when she started playing piano at 4 years old. During her time in high school, her passion for music grew as she began singing in her school’s choirs and became a lead singer for a rock band. Throughout her time in the band, she was able to experience numerous professional performances, and a chance to record an EP.
She continued to pursue voice at Elmhurst College, and graduated in 2016 with a Music Business degree. Ella has been trained in classical, musical theatre, and jazz vocals. In addition, she has performed behind Andrea Bocelli during two of his world tours, featured in the Emmy nominated PBS special “The Christmas Carol,” and part of the ensemble in “Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses.” She also volunteers as a music director during the annual musical theatre production at her church.
Why do you teach music? What motivates you to continue?
My motivation is when my students finally understand a difficult concept and can apply it to everything they play/learn moving forward. I think helping students learn these tough concepts and molding them into a musician at any age is why I’m so passionate about teaching music. It reminds me of my time taking lessons as a kid, and I want to be able to give that back somehow!

Instructor Spotlight - Caleb F
Caleb F. grew up in the town of Fenton, Michigan after being born in Libertyville, Illinois. He went to school at Lake Fenton all the way from Kindergarten to 12th grade. He had always been interested in music, and his mom would always laugh when he would bounce up and down to Shania Twain at age 2. Around the age of 8, his mom decided to have him take piano lessons. He ended up quitting because he didn’t like it that much, but in 5th grade, he decided to play the alto saxophone for the Lake Fenton band program. He really enjoyed playing the saxophone and would eventually make his way to first chair in the high school band, but there was an even greater love he would discover soon. Around 7th grade, he would start taking private drum lessons. This is when Caleb found the instrument that he truly loved. He had always had a great ear for rhythm, and this is where he would be able to best express that talent. From 7th to 12th grade, Caleb took private lessons with his drum teacher, a man by the name of Andy Garcia. Andy was the man that truly unlocked Caleb’s potential. He encouraged and challenged Caleb as much as he could, giving him the tools to succeed in his post high school life.
Caleb studied Music Business and Entrepreneurship at Judson University, with a focus in percussion. Michael Folker, his private instructor there, would be another major figure in his life. He taught Caleb how to play the marimba and timpani, and he helped Caleb master difficult solos on those instruments as well as the snare drum. He graduated in May of 2018, cum laude. In addition to being a musician, Caleb is also an avid runner. He ran competitively in both high school and college, and hopes to continue as long as he’s physically able to do so.
Wayne, NJ Welcomes Newest Bach to Rock Music School
Bach to Rock (B2R), America’s music school for students of all ages, proudly announces the opening of a new school in Wayne, New Jersey. Bach to Rock is expanding throughout the country helping music lovers become musicians. Now, families in Wayne are invited to learn about Bach to Rock at the school’s free grand opening on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 1595-3 NJ 23, Wayne, New Jersey, 07470. Attendees can tour the school, enjoy a free music lesson, learn about individual lessons and group classes, try out free toddler “Mommy and Me” classes, enter prize drawings and giveaways, check out the recording studio, and enjoy performances by instructors. This location marks Bach to Rock’s second school in New Jersey and its 39th in the country.
Nationwide, Bach to Rock has instructed over 45,000 aspiring musicians since opening its first school in 2007. The brand delivers a twist on traditional music lessons, offering something that’s akin to team sports with a spirit of creativity and fun to inspire students. “With Bach to Rock, gone are the days of boring and solitary music lessons. Students learn to play today’s hits and jam with other kids from the start. You’ll see students paired up in groups and teams to help ignite the musical energy,” said President of Bach to Rock, Brian Gross. The Wayne school will serve students from Wayne, Pequannock Township, Lincoln Park, Haledon, Pompton Lakes, and Totowa.
Karl Kahofer is the new franchise owner of the Wayne school, and he brings over 20 years of sales and management experience in the healthcare industry to the venture. The father of two daughters, he recently relocated his family to Bergen County. He noticed plenty of sports opportunities but didn’t see a lot of choices for kids with interests other than sports. “I feel it is important that families have a welcoming, family-focused music school option as well,” said Kahofer. “Additionally, there is a lack of fun music education in our school system. My love of music and the importance of boosting the cultural development of today’s children led me to Bach to Rock.”
Bach to Rock Wayne will offer a variety of programs for students of all ages including individual and group lessons in piano, voice, guitar, drum and more; music programs for preschoolers and toddlers; beginning piano for children in grades K-2; along with summer camps and birthday parties. Bach to Rock also offers MyB2R, an online dashboard offering customers real-time access to student progress and more. MyB2R is the only digital service of its kind in the music school industry, and provides the ability to track student advancement, schedule lessons, obtain homework and stream over 300 pre-recorded songs to practice at home.
Changing the Way Students Learn Music
Bach to Rock is reshaping music education on a national scale by turning solitary, boring music lessons into a group activity that is more like a team sport. B2R focuses on providing a well-balanced music education because, ultimately, that is what parents are looking for. Unlike other music school franchises, Bach to Rock has an extensive curriculum. Students learn the intricacies of music — from theory to how to read music. Bach to Rock is the music school kids would have designed for themselves. They get to jam with other kids right away and play current hits. The learning is the same, but the enjoyment factor is much higher.

In a fierce competition at the 2019 Bach to Rock Battle of the Bands, 36 bands went head-to-head at City Winery in New York City on Sunday, June 9.
The groups performed in both the Main Space and The Loft at City Winery and rocked the iconic hotspot.
“The students, who range in age from 7 to 18, and their band coaches worked tirelessly for months to prepare for this tremendous event and I’m beyond proud of all the performers,” said Bach to Rock Port Washington Director Elana Hayden. “While this is a competition, the main point is for the kids to have a great experience, to get to perform in a top New York City venue – and to have fun and feel like a rock star!”
Six seasoned music industry professionals, Carolee Goodgold (Carly Simon), John Miller (Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton), Brandon “Taz” Niederauer (Lady Gaga, Dr. John), Cameron Rasmussen (Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway), Jason Reese (Sal “The Voice” Valentinetti) and Wayne Schuster (Blood, Sweat, and Tears) judged the performances.
Over 150 students performed on stages that have hosted Lou Reed, Suzanne Vega, Joan Osborne, Taj Mahal, Patti Smith, and Buster Poindexter to name a few.
The bands were scored on several criteria including musical ability, technical ability, stage presence, material, creativity, and professionalism. All the competitors study a variety of musical disciplines at Bach to Rock music school, including music theory, instrument instruction, recording arts, performance arts, voice lessons and band coaching.
Featured Student - Indica
This is our student of the month: Indica! She has been playing piano for one year now! When she isn't playing music, she enjoys biking and disc golf. A fun fact about Indica is that her name means "night star princess protected by wolves". Her favorite thing about being a part of Bach to Rock is singing with her band Purple Nightmare, as well as playing piano with her mom who also takes lessons here. Congrats Indica!
